Canada Tours Into The Wild
How to choose Canada Tours, if you don’t want to go solo?
Backcountry Canada Tours, also called Canadian Adventure Tours, come in lots of different shapes and colours. It is important to check out the various options for Backcountry Canada Tours and decide what it is you want.
You can travel the Canadian backcountry on horseback or by bicycle, on a motorbike or in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Or you can experience the Canadian backcountry in the air-conditioned comfort of a luxury bus.
Canada tours can last for a few days or many weeks, it can be adventures or just luxurious, you have the choice, you can decide.
There are many backcountry destinations to choose from, but no Canada tour package will cover it all.
It’s important to decide on your travel destination, what parts of Canada you would like to see. Is it the East or the West? What kind of experience are you looking for?
The Canadian East and the Canadian West are like two different worlds. There are lots of reasons to see them both. Canada is a vast country and much of the country still remains uninhabited. This means, what ever Canada tours you will take, you will experience only a small part of the Canadian wilderness.
Most people, when they come to Canada for the first time, come out to West Canada. The image of the Real Wild West still lives on in the minds of many visitors.
For the luxury Canada tours, do your own research. Check with a Canada travel agent specialist, or contact one of the Canadian visitor centers.
But, you don’t want to be a typical tourist, right? You are looking for a different kind of adventure tour!

Canada Tours – Ideas and What To Look For
If Moose Travel doesn’t appeal to you, there are many other tour operators to choose from and possibilities are endless.
Trip ideas offered by various Canadian tour operators:
- Canadian rocky mountain tours
- Quebec and Ontario explorer
- Atlantic Canada
- The North (and the northern lights)
- Haida Gwaii, the Queen Charlotte Islands
- Churchill polar bears
- Vancouver Island
- Newfoundland and Wild Labrador
- Canoeing and kayaking trips
- Multi-day horseback trips
It is possible to combine some of the trips. For example, if you want to travel through the rocky mountains, but you want to see the polar bears in Canada as well, make sure it’s added in the tour you choose.
What I would look for when choosing backcountry Canada tours:
- small group, between 10 and 15
- authentic camping trip, sleeping in tents
- campfires at night and campfire cooking
- visiting off the beaten track places and not just go to the well-known tourist attractions
- a tour that allows plenty of time to hike, swim and explore.
On some of the trips, you get spoiled, on other ones you will be expected to pull your weight, unload the truck, collect wood, build a fire and help with meals and cleanup.
I have joined adventure tours in many parts of the world, but not many in Canada, apart from week-long horse pack trips in the Chilcotin mountains. It seems, that once you settle here, you choose other ways to travel.
Finding the best Backcountry Canada Tours
If you are not the wilderness type like myself, or if the idea of having to put up your own tent doesn’t excite you, don’t worry, there are many other options out there.
Many travellers want to see as many places as possible. And no matter how much all the Canadian backcountry tour operators try to be unique in their brochures, at the end of the day most tours are very similar.
I always prefer smaller family owned businesses, for both tours and accommodation and I don’t usually book with large corporations.
The best way is to check out their website and inquire by email or phone before spending money. See how they handle the inquiry and listen to your gut.
Smaller businesses take more pride in what they can offer. You get to know the employees, they stick around longer and are interesting to talk to.
Look for something a bit different and unique!
Don’t choose Canada tours that pack in the most of the stuff, in the least amount of time, for the least amount of money, it’s not worth it. If you haven’t been in Canada before, you underestimate the distances between places. I guarantee you, you will spend lots of time inside that bus, more than you ever expected!
And if the main reason that you want to join a tour in the first place is, that you feel that it’s too dangerous to travel by yourself, then maybe you should reconsider.
Backcountry Canada tours can’t beat what independent travel has to offer!
